My first hand made top

Inspired by the Great British Sewing Bee I decided to have a go at making a top. After searching long and hard for a pattern I liked and thought I could work with and not finding anything (free) I found a tutorial for making your own pattern from a top you already have (which I can't find again now, typical!). It seemed easy enough and I had a cotton top I love to try and copy.

In the end I'm quite happy with the top I've made. The fabric was very slippy compared to other cottons I've worked with and I found it a bit harder to sew in a straight line as it stretched a bit while I was sewing. I didn't use any lining and rolled the hems round the neck line and sleeves to prevent fraying.

For the finishing touch I added a mini hexagon flower I got with a kit with an issue of Love Patchwork & Quilting.

  2. What a lovely top! It looks really wonderful, especially with the little patchwork piece :) I'm enjoying the GBSB but have yet to be brave enough to sew any clothes for myself :)

    1. Thank you! I had a sudden rush of courage and just decided to have a go. I reasoned I could always use the fabric for patchwork or something if I messed it up!

    1. Thank you! I thought I would have a go because the fabric would not go to waste if I messed up. I can always use it for smaller projects.
