Little Piggy

I made this little piggy for my boyfriend, because he likes pigs! The pattern is from Sew Fresh Quilts, and was quite easy to make.

Quick Quilted Cushion

This is a fairly simple cushion made from a bag of scraps I got at a local quilt shop. The scraps were all cut into strips of similar sizes, and I was inspired by scrappy quilt blocks made from selvage edges.

Patchwork quilt

I don't know if you remember a while I go I showed you the start of a patchwork quilt I was making. Now it is done!

I  supposed it's not really a quilt as it hasn't been quilted, I have only anchored it around outer and inner edge of the border. But it's done and I'm really happy with it. I used fleece between the front and the back and used another flowery fabric for the back. It's fairly small, just about big enough to put over my lap. It's a shame it's starting to warm up now, so I won't be able to use it for a while!

Patchwork cushion present

Today is the birthday of one of Michael's brothers and for that reason I made him (the brother, not Michael!) a cushion.

This cushion is entirely made of old shirts, and has a envelope opening on the back so I don't have to try and deal with zips again!

Patchwork tote bag

I'm going to be selling some crafty stuff at a craft fair at one of the libraries here next weekend, and so I've been busy making some stuff!

Here's a little tote bag I made in a flash of inspiration.

I actually cheated a bit with the patchwork and used the sewing machine, rather than stitching it together by hand as I usually do. It worked out quite well, but inevitably destroyed the card that was holding the shape of the hexagons.

Patchwork cushion

A couple of months ago I was lucky enough to buy a complete patchwork cushion kit from a charity shop for 50p. 

It had everything with it to make a cushion cover including backing fabric, and paper hexagons.

And now it's finished! I tried to put a zip in it, but I'm not quite happy with that, so I'll probably be taking that out and try again. 

Strawberry patchwork cushion

Before I showed you my work in progress of the strawberry cushion, and here it is finished! It's been almost finished for a little while, it just needing some stuffing, and I kept forgetting to buy it. Now it's done, and I'm pleased with the result, and have learned a lot to take on board with me next time.

Here's my progress so far on the floral quilt I'm making. I really enjoy picking out the next hexagon flower to add to it.

Here's my strawberry cushion so far! I'm doing another round in red (I've started it at the top) and I'm thinking about putting strawberry patches in the corners of the hexagon.

 

I got these lovely fabrics at a charity shop today, and I think I'm going to use them with the other flowery fabric I got previously!

Patchwork class

On Friday I saw a little advert in one of the local supermarkets advertising a patchwork class, the class was on Saturday, so in a completely spur-of-the-moment fashion I e-mailed the lady running it and signed up. The lady's name is Diana, and you can see her projects on her Facebook page Random Patchwork & Crafts.

Diana asked me what colours I'd like to work with and I, of course, said 'purples'. So when I got to the class I had some lovely purple bits of fabric to work with. We spent the class tacking the fabric onto little cardboard hexagons and then putting them all together. Here's what I did. 

I'm quite pleased with it for my first try! The two sides have been stitched together and are ready to be stuffed to make a sweet little pincushion, you can see the top left hexagon is a bit wonky, as it hasn't been stitched up yet. 

Diana was also selling some fabrics, so I bought a few pieces. 

I got some strawberry fabric and plain red fabric which I am going to make into (the front of) a proper cushion. 

And I also got some flowery fabric and matching green fabric to make into something else, I don't know what yet!

I had a lot of fun and I'm glad I decided to go to the class. I hope to be doing a lot more patchwork in the future!
