A little while ago I found an online quilting shop called The Quilt Room that had a special little subscription. It's called The Bolt End Club, every two months you pay £10 to get five fat quarters from bolts that they are clearing from their stock. I decided to give it a go, as I have stopped my Crafty Creatives subscription as they have increased their prices with their new boxes. This is what I got:
What a lovely selection of fabrics, isn't it? The bottom two are fabrics I never would have chosen myself but I think they are really fun and funky! I really love the orange and the green fabrics, but I'm not sure about the flowery one in the middle top.
What a neat idea for a club! Fabric surprises in the mail :) I've heard that there are Fat Quarter swaps online, especially on Facebook, so that may be an option for trading away any pieces that don't grab you, as there's bound to be a few mixed in with the gems. I think quilting/sewing groups generally host them.
ReplyDeleteAlso, larger designs like the roses are sometimes more manageable when you cut close to the motifs and frame them with something plainer, or for appliques. A few roses on a black tote bag, for instance, might look more modern? I don't tend to like prints with busy backgrounds either, but I've been able to salvage some this way :)
Thanks Aurelia, I'll have to see if I can find anything like that.
DeleteGood idea about using the fabric for applique, I haven't really tried applique before. I'll have to give it a go some time.
I like that idea! If I wasn't doing Stitch from Stash I might sign up. And I don't even quilt LOL.
